Lulo or Naranjilla, which means "little orange" in Spanish, are the fruits of a large, sub-tropical, bushy plant.
The peel is thick and bright orange with a smooth, leathery texture. The inside consists of a greenish pulp which is separated into four sections and has a jelly-like consistency and small, pale yellow seeds. The flavour is slightly sweet and acidic with notes of citrus, pineapple and kiwi.
Once ripe the skin may darken and the texture soften.
